What is Fire Insurance?

Knowing the meaning of fire insurance is vital when it comes to protecting your belongings and staying financially stable. Fire insurance may be seen as a special type of property insurance aimed at providing protection from losses or damages due to fire.

Fire insurance helps people and organizations recover through the reimbursement of expenses associated with restoring, rebuilding, or replacing damaged buildings, equipment, and personal possessions as a result of fire damage.

In addition to standard protection, an extensive fire insurance policy usually includes extra coverage like reimbursement for temporary accommodation in case your house is uninhabitable after a fire or liability coverage if the fire damages other people’s property. Such an extensive coverage range is essential to provide you with protection against numerous risks associated with fire.

Types of Fire Insurance Policy

Valued Policy

In this type of insurance, the insurer fixes a pre-decided value on the property or object to be insured. This amount is to be compensated to the holder of the policy in case of a claim made against the policy, irrespective of the actual loss incurred.

Average Policy

Here, the sum insured can be taken in an amount lower than the actual value of the property. As the compensation will be restricted to the amount insured, this policy is a more cost-effective choice, providing partial cover.

Specific Policy

Under this insurance policy, the compensation will be given only up to a particular amount. In case the claim amount is below this amount, the policyholder gets the total amount of the compensation. But the loss exceeding this amount will be out of the scope of this coverage.

Floating Policy

Most suited to businesses, this policy insures many properties, even situated at different locations, with one single coverage policy.

Consequential Loss Policy

A coverage plan for businesses, it provides security against losses incurred because of damage to machinery or equipment due to a fire hazard. This will ensure that the business continues its operation without facing any disruption.

Comprehensive Policy

Besides covering damages due to fire hazards, this policy also provides cover against losses caused by theft, natural calamities, or man-made occurrences.

Replacement Policy

Under this policy, the compensation is made on the basis of either depreciated value or actual value of the property.

Standard Fire and Special Perils
